I wanted to a quick post about 4G/5G security and the issues with it.

Firstly, we need to take into account that all computer and network systems are insecure, and they always will be. So, in regard to 4G and 5G, the issues are that such a large network (WMAN) is that it has a great number of users connected to the same network. In the real world, if I only compromise a WLAN, I am maybe able to see traffic and search for user exploits for perhaps one to a few hundred users. Whilst if I intrude on a WMAN I am able to do far greater damage.

One example of this is the recent news stories about someone using the global mobile operating system (SS7) to locate and monitor any cell phone in the world. This was demonstrated by the renowned news program 60 Minutes recently (Alfonsi, 2016).

Then there is always the discussion over whether security comes before usability. And that is not for me to reflect upon right now.
